It's that time of year for AMWA's 2009-2010 Leadership Elections!  Being a part of the AMWA Leadership Team is a very rewarding and fulfilling experience.  If you are looking for a leadership position, this is a great one to take on!  If interested, we ask that you please read the job descriptions below and e-mail Brigit Ray (brigit-ray@uiowa.edu) with your name and position of interest by Friday, April 24th.  We will then have you stand up and make a very short speech as to why you are interested in the position and vote at our next meeting which is tentatively scheduled for Monday, April 27th!

President:
 This position can be a single person or a group of people (no more than 2-3). As President, your responsibilities would include overseeing all the entities of the UICCOM chapter of AMWA.  You would be responsible for coordinating Leadership meetings as well lunch-time meetings (we usually shoot for about monthly) and overseeing the Treasurer with the food order/organizational purchases and publicity.  Further, you would serve as the primary contact for the organization through the University of Iowa and the Carver College of Medicine.  Overall, this is a very rewarding position and requires a little more time commitment than the other positions.  If you have any questions please contact one of the current Presidents at: brigit-ray@uiowa.edu, anastasia-bassis@uiowa.edu, or stacy-quella@uiowa.edu

Treasurer: 
Your responsibilities include: collecting and depositing dues as well as updating the AMWA roster at the beginning of the year, budgeting and planning for the food for the monthly meetings, and keeping track of the money for the fundraiser. This job is a minimal time commitment, and a fun way to be involved behind the scenes for this organization. Mentor Program:
 As coordinator of the AMWA Mentor Program, you will be in charge of matching interested AMWA members to a female physician at UIHC.  During the first meeting of the year, you will have members fill out a form stating their top 3 specialties in which they would like to be matched. For the remainder of the year, you will contact physicians in those specialties to ask if they are interested in serving as a mentor.  This can be a slow process. However, as the only mentor program that specifically seeks to match students to women physicians, this is a huge resource and a great opportunity to AMWA members. Service Chair:
As service chair, my primary duty is to organize the apparel sale for the Fall semester, one of AMWA's largest fundraisers.  Responsibilities for the fundraiser include procuring a vendor, outlining the apparel options including colors and items, generating and distributing order forms and orders once they arrive.  Other duties for this position include attending board meetings and assisting in organizing speakers and food options.  This position is very rewarding and offers the chance to really contribute to the group.
