The Fall Term AIDS advocacy organizer is expected to:

Attend and organize meetings with local grassroots groups and advocacy groups also involved in advocating for AIDS related legislation in DC
Work on objectives related to educating AMSA membership & the community about AIDS related legislation
Work with The Jack Rutledge Legislative Director (JRLD) and the AIDS Advocacy Network, Steering Committee (AAN-SC) to outline tasks and goals for the quarter
Organize and develop World AIDS Day programming and advocacy actions for AMSA chapters

The AIDS Advocacy Organizer will be provided with:

FREE Housing in a town house in Reston, Virginia located a few miles south of Washington DC
Office space in the AMSA National office in Reston, Virginia for completing projects
Supervision and mentoring from the JRLD and AAN-SC
A budget to complete projects and attend meetings that will enhance AMSA's position as a grassroots AIDS advocate

Ideal applicants:

Have advocacy experience though it is not required
Will be available by Oct. 1 (or earlier) through December
Have some background in AIDS related issues including The Ryan White Act, PEPFAR, and trade related issues involved with access to HIV/AIDS medications
If candidate has minimal background in these issues, is willing to spend the first few weeks of the internship learning about them

· Above all, is passionate about advocacy and understand the importance of mobilizing for change.

Dates of fall internship are approximately Oct. 1 to Dec before the holidays; dates are flexible. Please include these in your application. Winter Internship dates are approximately Jan 5 to March 31 (also flexible); application is due by Nov. 15 for this cycle. AMSA is unable to offer a stipend for interns at this time. AMSA does offer free housing near its headquarters in Washington, DC, and the AAO will have stipend support for expenditures on behalf of AMSA (travel to meetings, etc.) and for programming.

2. A Cover Letter of no more than 800 words that includes:

- Required: A description of your interest and/or past experience in HIV/AIDS and/or global health issues and advocacy

- Required: An outline of either a specific project you would like to complete and/or the types of projects you are interested in creating

- Optional: Any personal goals you are hoping to achieve through this internship

3. Curriculum Vitae (or resume) Limit 2 pages for undergraduates and 3 pages for graduate students. Please DO NOT include MCAT, USMLE, ACT/SAT, etc. scores or GPA in your application.
